Meserani Juu Primary School, Arusha Region

Comfy Care12 recently visited Meserani Juu Primary School in Arusha, where they provided essential menstrual health and hygiene education, alongside reusable sanitary pads, to 55 underprivileged Maasai girls.
This initiative is part of the organization's ongoing mission to address the menstrual health needs of young girls in rural Tanzania and break down the cultural stigmas surrounding menstruation.

The training session, led by Comfy Care12 trainers Magdalena, Eve, and Veronica, also included 30 boys from the school. In line with their 2025 initiative, No Child Left Behind, Comfy Care12 is emphasizing the importance of educating both girls and boys on menstrual health. By involving boys in the conversation, the organization fosters a culture of inclusion and understanding, which is vital to breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation and promoting a supportive environment for both genders.

For many girls, especially in rural communities, menstruation is often shrouded in secrecy and cultural taboos. Without proper education, girls may struggle with hygiene practices and experience feelings of shame, all of which can hinder their ability to stay in school. In some communities, cultural norms require girls to take on adult responsibilities like household chores and caring for livestock once they start menstruating. These expectations can cause many girls to miss school, severely limiting their opportunities for a better future.

Many girls in these communities also use traditional methods, such as rags, for menstrual hygiene. These methods are uncomfortable, unhygienic, and often ineffective, making it difficult for girls to manage their periods and attend school regularly. Comfy Care12 aims to provide them with the knowledge and resources they need to manage their menstrual health safely and effectively.

Comfy Care12 is helping girls and boys understand their bodies and support each other. This is essential to empowering the next generation of rural Tanzanians to break free from the cultural taboos surrounding menstruation and stay in school with dignity.

Comfy Care12 remains committed to working closely with local educators and healthcare professionals to ensure that our programs are culturally appropriate and effective. Through these collaborative efforts, we are creating a supportive environment where all students, regardless of gender, can thrive and reach their full potential.
